George Acosta Leads US U17 to International Success

The US U17 Youth National Team won the International Montaigu Tournament, which was hosted in France over the past couple days. They beat out hosts France 3-2 in the final, thanks in large part to George Acosta’s two goal performance.

The US tied Brazil 1-1; England 2-2; and beat Russia 4-0 en route to the finals. Their opponent in the final, France, won all three of their games beating Northern Ireland 2-0; Peru 8-0; and Morocco 1-0.

Acosta was instrumental in the US’ winning campaign as he scored two goals a piece in each of his matches against England, Russia, and France. With 6 goals in the tournament, he was the tournament’s leading scorer. The US last one the title in 1992.

Another Weston FC alum, Nicolas Garcia-Morillo, was also in the team. Garcia-Morillo saw action in the US’ first two games against Brazil and England, coming in as a sub on both occasions. George and Nicolas both played for the U16 academy and have since moved on to the USA residency program and Atlético Madrid respectively.

We would like to congratulate both players on their success and wish them much more in the future.
