Inter Miami CF Signs Weston FC Alumnus – George Acosta

Club brings former local youth player back home .

MIAMI, Fla. September 20, 2019) – Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed 19-year-old attacking midfielder George Acosta. The Miami-born player of Colombian heritage will play for Austin Bold FC in the USL Championship until January 2020.

“We are excited to sign a player of George’s potential and look forward to integrating him into our inaugural roster,” said Inter Miami CF Sporting Director Paul McDonough.

Acosta has been a regular for the U.S. Youth National Teams since the U-14 levels. He participated in the Montaigu Tournament in France with the U-16s, scoring six goals that helped the U.S. lift the trophy for the first time since 1992.

With the U-17s Acosta competed in the 2017 FIFA World Cup in India, making two appearances and scoring one goal.

Since then, Acosta has continued representing his home country consistently climbing the ranks at the youth levels. He earned his first training camp appearances for the U-20s in July 2018 and participated in the U-20 Men’s Invitational tournament at IMG Academy against Jamaica and Venezuela in September of that same year. Recently, in June, Acosta was called up for the U-23 Men’s National Team training camp in Utah by Head Coach Jason Kreis.

At the club level, Acosta’s competitive career began with local youth soccer club Weston FC. He joined the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. in 2015, and a year later signed with USL side North Carolina FC in 2016. He recently joined Austin Bold FC in August 2019, where he will remain until Inter Miami’s pre-season starts at the beginning of the new year.
